moonhearts - Moonhearts
The debut album from US garage/surf rocking trio Moonhearts (formerly known as Charlie & The Moonhearts), this is a generally more muscular, Ramones-ish affair than much of the material emanating from this scene at the moment. Occasionally recalling Jay Reatard in his prime, tracks like 'Can't Find My Way' pack quite a punch, rattling through the fuzz deluge with a little more low-end menace than most lo-fi caterwaulers. Another blistering highlight, 'Eat My Shorts' is even dafter than its title would have it sound. Counteracting the Bart Simpson-compatible screamed out choruses there's an insane free-jazzing sax solo that takes this thing to wholly more interesting next level. In a more subdued moment, the band serve up 'Shine', during which there's some cap-doffing to classic psych-pop sounds, with rattling acoustic guitars and harmonised, 'verbed-out vocals. Most agreeable.
