no age - Glitter
'Glitter' is the lead single from the Sub Pop duo's forthcoming album, Everything In Between. Sounding like a more polished entity here than on previous outings, Dean Spunt and Randy Randall (two names always worth reprinting) preserve the grungey elegance of their songwriting but offer up a more complete and considered context for it. The expected layers of fuzz and feedback are consigned to a more strategic role in the background, bolstering the effects-sculpted chord changes and electronically reinforced drums. In a fairly understated way, 'Glitter' proves to be a bit of a noise-pop masterpiece, perhaps sounding like a head-on collision between My Bloody Valentine and Sebadoh. Whatever, it's a great track and surely a great sign for what's to come from the full-length. Harking back to the grinding garage romps of old, 'In Rebound' is a more primitive but mercilessly effective punk-rock dirge while 'Vision II' takes the form of a more experimental affair, crafting waves of noise and drone-pop goodness.
