timber timbre / tasseomancy - Demon Host
'Demon Host' is the first single to be lifted from the Timber Timbre's eponymous debut, previously released via Arts & Crafts and soon to be reissued by Full Time Hobby. Here, we get to hear Toronto songwriter Taylor Kirk in all his stripped back splendour, rattling through lo-fi, bluesy Americana in fine voice. For the most part the track is pared down to just acoustic guitar and vocals, leaving a ghostly choir and a piano part to make a late entrance during the coda. On this early evidence, Kirk sounds like a commanding songwriter who's certainly likely to make a big impression on fans of Fleet Foxes and their ilk. B-side, 'Darkness, is a song by Tasseomancy featuring Timber Timbre, taking on a more fully arranged accompaniment to Kirk's weary vocal with its rich layering of horns and harpsichord.
