aslope - A Helping Hand EP
Hobby Industries recordings make a very welcome return to the fray with a glistening EP of electronic fusions from Aslope, including a Gold Panda remix! Finding itself somewhere between Mount Kimbie's squashed Jazz machinations, the LA beat scene and the UK's twisting future garage workforce, 'A Helping Hand' combines piquant electronica melodies with bristling beat structures, from the Fly Lo style 2-step of 'Close' to the bobbling Zomby-IDM arpeggiations of 'Mercury Mouth' and a dark 'n Skweeezy cut in 'Quick'. Gold Panda ups the garage factor with his 'Close' remix, bolstering the bass and the skewing the beat into twitchy patterns strong enough for the club. The digital bonus 'Two Weeks' imagines a smudged and more European version of Nosaj Things' emotive electronic hiphop and Japanese producer Inner Science picks it apart into spindly shards of icy 'tronica with padded house beat akin to Lusine. If you loved the Mount Kimbie album, this is a must.
