caribou - Bowls (James Holden Mix)
Terrific second single from Caribou's acclaimed 'Swim' album, backed with an idiosyncratic remix from James Holden. The fluid, untethered nature of 'Bowls' is testament to the fact there's no easy categorisation for Caribou when he's in this form. The closest comparison for his blend of hi-end synthesis and organically woven song structures has to be Four Tet, but there's a fleeting joy and constantly shifting focus to his recent sounds that bears his distinctive fingerprint. The strings bloom and riffs flow with the arrangement of a rave classic but quite unlike any you've consciously heard before. On the flip James Holden gives a pastoral synth groove sitting somewhere between Krautrock and Morris dancing, full of clammy synths and prancing bell chimes with a consciously English eccentric element. Very limited copies. Very good!
