el guincho - Piratas De Sudamérica
This new EP from tropical-wave electronic pop architect El Guincho takes on new arrangements of "various South American standards and lost classics". While previously El Guincho has scored innumerable comparisons with Panda Bear for his reverb sodden laptop loops, this new release finds producer Pablo Dias-Reixa pursuing a strand of balmy, Latin-inspired psychedelic that's all his own. Joined by vocalists Juleta Venegas and Adrian Venegas, Dias-Reixa croons his way through five great recordings that seem to have as much to do with '60s bossa nova and Afro-cuban sounds as it does modern electronic pop. Good stuff.
