mr lager - Tell Me (Silkie / Von D Mixes)
It's definitely a case of quality over quantity with the third release in as many years from Chef's Sub Freq label. With this remix package of Mr Lager and Alys Be's 'Tell Me' from Distance, Silkie, and Von D he's doubled the label's output in one fell swoop. The original provides some great source material with a smart vocal performance from Alys Be set to moody halfstep with bouncing techno chords. Distance craftily inverts the smooth finish with a standardly disgusting version, scouring the surface with a coarse digital grain and slowing the rhythm to a lugubrious stomp. Meanwhile, Silkie's mix hangs off a tightly wound skank and Von D sets the rave up with big room techno arrangements given a steppers injection.
