skream - Sweetz (2005 Flex) / Angry World
Keysound come properly correct this week with two lost dubs from Skream, dug out and buffed up for the 2010 crew. Martin Clarke has done us all a favour, giving some perspective on dubstep's current state of play by reappraising the original sound, the pre-dubstep warz, pre-2006 sound. For many youngers this period of the scene's evolution may be completely alien, but the sheer thrills of Skream's early dread futurism is still clearly evident for all to witness. 'Sweetz (2005 Flex)' strongly reminds of that fateful 'Angry/Traitor' 12" and the first time a lot of heads discovered his reduction of dark garage, D'n'B and BASS. On the flip we're treated to 'Angry World' a classic lost dub that should surely rank among his finest. This is some real prototype riddim business, made without the need to pump-up big rooms full of upferrit ravers, yet still deadly as hell. Killer.
