furreshu - Untitled / 1993 / Horizons
Impressive techno experiments from Bristol's Furreshu. In the wake of his digital-only Echodub release, this is his first vinyl release, deftly combining the strains of dub-tech and techno also explored by Sigha, Scuba or Marcel Dettmann. The A-side nearly buckles under the weight of carrying it's 'Untitled' load, where throbbing kicks rub against dry hi-hats and cracked plastic textures to create an arid friction requiring some sweaty lubrication from the dancers. '1993' meanwhile cuts deep into an electro-stepped killer with grandly spacious dub-stabs and droning industrial synths before the chilling finale of 'Horizons', meshing tautly minimalist halfstep patterns with a cloistered sense of darkness you'd usually find on a Sandwell or Fachwerk release. Aces all round.
