tolouse low trax - Mask Talk
Toulouse Low Trax is the dancefloor-not-dancefloor alter ego of Kreidler's Detlef Weinrich. So far he's only given us a few glimpses of his sound via an obscure electro 12" on Amontillado and some even rarer remixes for his Düsseldorf peers. Now on Karaoke Kalk for a debut solo album, he sets out nine tracks of technotic synthlines and drowsy shaeffel patterns fitting perfectly with the sophisticated electronica aesthetic of his label mates. You'll be hard pushed to find any 'floor anthems, but if you're into the elliptical rhythm experiments of Ilpo Väisänen you really must check 'Kingdom', while the raw EBM battery tang of 'Prox' reminds us of Rebolledo's kinky jack trax for the Cómeme crew and the 'Qual Und Glueck' harks back to 'Zero Set' era Moebius, Plank and Neumeier. In much the same manner as Mapstation or To Rococo Rot he takes etches traces of Latin and African rhythms and timbres into a very mittel-European sound that we're really feeling.
