**10 tracks lifted from The Sticks' CD album presented on gatefold 7" double-vinyl** Hailing from Brighton, The Sticks are the latest lo-fi sensations out of the Upset The Rhythm stable. This garage-loving party band have gaining comparisons to the likes of Black Lips and No Age, and you could certainly link this lot to a musical kinship with the former along with the countless rockabilly scuzz-nicks currently filling up the rosters of labels like Woodsist and In The Red. Still, it's nice to hear that sound given a British twist, and The Sticks bring an extra air of discordance and musical instability to the fore. Throughout this thoroughly enjoyable romp you'll be struck by suspicions that certain members of the band might only have picked up their instrument of choice for the third or fourth time before embarking upon these recordings. This, of course, is all part of the charm, and when they sound like a depraved Duane Eddy on 'Don't Sit On The Porch' and 'On The Sea', you can't help but greet them with a smile. In fact, at least as often as you find yourself making comparisons between this bunch and their lo-fi contemporaries you'll be thinking further back to the age of surf rock groups like The Ventures, or rock & roll pioneers like Link Wray. Of course, when these guys do it, 'pioneering' isn't a term that springs to mind, but they certainly pull off an enjoyably wayward racket, bringing a healthy supply of punk attitude to their particular vein of retro rock.
