sbtrkt - Laika
SBTRKT follows in the footsteps of Untold, Zomby and Spiders to drop a crucial one-sided steppers joint for Brainmath. This guy has been steadily picking up a devoted following after classy remixes of Basement Jaxx, Fantastic Mr Fox and Radiohead, all bearing his signature blend of garage futurism and technoid programming. On 'Laika' he focusses on a purified 2-step swing riddim, stripped to the bare bones of Untold-style sub-bumps and shatterproof plastic percussion maximised to sound super crisp over a worthy rig. A house-warmed chord sequence balances out the cold flex of the percussion, kept simple and tracky for mixing potential with compatible steppers like Brackles' 'LHC' or recent Shortstuff releases, placing this in the must-have category for all the DJs cutting through this style. Sick.
