mustafa ozkent - Genclik Ile Elele
Finally available again... Finders Keepers pull another treat out of the magic hat with this legendary and ultra-rare gem from the annals of the Anatolian pysch/funk/folk/rock scene. As Votel himself writes in the press release, if this album had been discovered by the early B-Boys in the Bronx, it would have been as treasured as the Incredible Bongo Band as it's basically wall to wall breaks - no vocals just incredibly innovative instrumental music with two drummers and a percussionist. I'm sure you're already imagining the possibilities, but when you hear it I promise you it will be hard to avoid the temptation to drop a track in every set you play. Don't worry if you don't have that urge to show off your hip record collection to a room of sweaty yoofs either, there's plenty here to make even the most horizontal of home listeners grin with childish glee. Apparently the album's mad-professor like creator Mustafa Ozkent was a master of carpentry and electronics, so this combined with a deep-rooted love of music allowed him to engineer custom instruments to suit his needs. He manufactured guitars for himself which could replicate the notes achievable on the Turkish Saz, so he could actually play hybrid Turkish folk music, piping it through wah wah and fuzz pedals usually associated with Western guitar rock. We're lucky as hell to be able to score an album quite so peculiarly entrancing as this. Whether you're into breaks, psych or just plain ole rock 'n roll, you need this album in your collection - that's all there is to it.
