ed devane - The Squirm EP
Having left the Emerald Isle for the sunnier climes of Barcelona, 23 year old Ed Devane has a stated mission-statement to create the kind of music that invokes "paranoia, fear and claustrophobia in the listener". Hold the torch, I'm going in... Newly initiated to Andrea Parker's Touchin' Bass, Devane first snagged the attention of electro aficionados with a trilogy of releases on Takeover Records that combined a forehead-creasing blast of beats with a back curtain of dusty menace. Reprising this sound for 'The Squirm EP', Devane is happy to batter his audience with a cavalcade of chrome-beats - refraining from slipping into the overtly aggressive stance assumed by many, Devane favours a malignant undercurrent that instills all four tracks showcased here with a distinctive flavour. Opening on the appropriately titled 'Giant Bassmantix', Devane is relentless in his pursuit of shadowy electro flavours - with 'Doubt', 'Ramsek' and 'Memorandum' all adhering to this basic schematic.
