rhythm and sound - SMY Remixes Volume 2
Back in stock! Hard to think of many/any producers out there who would refuse an opportunity to remix music penned by Basic Channel's Mark Ernestus and Mauritz Von Oswald, particularly given that up until this series of remix twelves it just wasn't something the elusive pair ever allowed. Putting together a shortlist of potential remixers for these releases must have been a real chore - who would you ask to rework your music if you knew you could get more or less anyone you wanted? Following on from the Villalobos / Vladislav Delay / Tikiman formation of part 1, Part two in the SMY remixes series finds the a-side reserved for the equally elusive, seminal producer Francois K - longtime cohort/brethren/spiritually aligned colleague of Basic Channel, here delivering an almost breaks-driven re-working heavy on the uptempo nuances which have made him so well known these last 20 years. Needless to say - it works a treat. Hardwax's incredible Soundstream (the discoid alter-ego of edit kings Soundhack) deliver the first mix on the flip - another impossibly chic exercise in the tightest disco edits and uplifting shenanigans imaginable, while B2 goes back to the heyday of Chain Reaction with an impossibly deep 4/4 re-working from Substance, DJ pete once again displaying his methodical kinship to his two mentors. Mighty.
