faust - C'est... Com... Com.... Compliqué
Still belting out albums at a rate to make men half their age envious, those avant-garde behemoths Faust return with a batch of material recorded in 2006 for the Nurse With Wound collaboration Disconnected. The disc gets underway with the strobing drone and sinewy bass repetitions of 'Kundalini Tremolos', followed up by the dark organ sustains and ponderous prog manoeuvres of 'Accroche A Tes Livres'. So far it's a moody, rather minimalist incarnation of Faust's wild, exploratory mindset, but you'll find the band's fearsome, untamable percussive outbursts littered throughout the album, taking on an especially effective stammering motorik feel during the sparse krautrock classicism of the title track. This being Faust, the weirdest thing here has to be 'Petits Sons Appetissants', which is notably strange for being so... normal. Aside from crashing dustbin lid cymbals and a bit of disjointed hollering the piece sounds like a curiously welcoming piece of ambling pop music. A strong showing from the veteran experimenters.
