We've been in thrall to this series of remixes of tracks from Scuba's 'A Mutual Antipathy' for the last few weeks now and the final installment is upon us with Marcel Dettmann realigning 'From Within' and Scuba remaking his own 'Hard Boiled' cut. Scuba's recent DJ sets have been something to behold, with his residency at Berghain's Sub:stance sessions allowing him to fully explore the possibilities of dubstep and techno fusion with stunning results. Marcel Dettmann's remix of 'From Within' is a perfect example of something you might find within one of these sets, reconfiguring his usual techno thump with a dubstep refinement in the deeply carved bass swoops and offset loopy vibe that opens up the possiblities of pitch bending to match other such technofied dubstep treats. The Scuba edit of 'Hard Boiled' on the flip actually sounds more like Dettmann than the Dettmann mix, seeing Scuba operating at a tempo far more reduced than his usual pitch and riding on rolling 4/4's with skillyfully constucted dub tech soundscapes especially spatialized to sound overwhelmingly smart on Berghain's brutal Funktion 1 rig. It's hard to pick a favourite from this series because they all sound so damn good in their own individual way, but for all the techno heads you seriously need to be giving this one some carefull consideration. Essential!
