scuba / martyn / vex'd - Mutual Antipathy (Martyn & Jamie Vex'd Remixes)
Back in stock. Another terrifyingly good new plate from HotFlush, as the remix series of Scuba's 'A Mutual Antipathy' reaches the next stage with Martyn and Jamie Vex'd on hand to turn the source material into two extra special variations. Martyn's 'Down' remix of 'The Upside' is his most technofied effort to date, dispensing with any jazzy licks or crafty edits for a straight and upbuilding construction rolling on a sleek dubstepXtechno chassis with layered synthlines making an ascent to the end point. The man can switch styles like no other and it's great to hear him openly experimenting with a different style. We really can't contain our excitement about the flipside for much longer though. The Jamie Vex'd remix of 'Twitch' has been doing the rounds over the summer as an advance promo and has rightly been picked up by any forward thinking DJs from Joker to Mary-Anne Hobbs as one of this year's most shocking fwd-music bass anthems. Showing a lot of other producers that quality and definitely not quantity is the key, Jamie Vex'd has been quietly tucked away in the midst of a bustling technopolis, perfecting the next stage of the mutant Vex'd sound, advancing from the twisted metal 'Degenerate' and the epic steppers sound on '3rd Choice' by leaping forward to some distant point in the space time continuum with a cybeR-n'Bass remix that unites the unravvelled future beats of Flying Lotus, with the astral synth funk of Joker or Rustie and at once sounding fresher than any of them. The production is just sculpted from the toughest malleable materials into something spectacularly glittering and awesome that deserves your immediate attention. This is easily the finest Vex'd production for a long time, if not ever (and we're big Vex'd fans), and one of the largest twelves of the year, no question. Killer!
