Lopped from the forthcoming 'Gular Flutter' album, 'The Rapid Cooling EP' is the first new material from the undefinable Blevin Blechtum in some time. 'Cygnet' sets the scene with an odd breakbeat number rife with Blechtum's strange sonic sense, and follows with 'Foyer Fire', a sqealing sear of experimental electronica. The real standout is the B-side 'Avian Enamel (with Apterial Ending)', a throbbing track with house-tempo, brushed jazz rhythms with a supremely organic flow that breaks way for some lush field recordings of the Avian variety informed by Blechtum's recent training as a veterinary technician. Fascinating.
