tom carter - Shots At Infinity 2
Not only is this a sister album to Tom Carter's CD release Shots At Infinity 1, it might also be seen as a distant cousin to the Kawabata Makoto and Michishita Shinsuke album also out this week on Important Records. As with those other records, Shots AtInfinity 2 features some absolutely glorious guitar improvisations, occasionally dabbling in the more clamorous, distorted realms the instrument can occupy, yet always preserving an acute sense of melody. The material here has a ccomposed feel to it much of the time, which pays testament to how artfully Carter stacks his individual lead lines via loop pedal. There are few solo electric guitar albums that combine traditional musicality with an avant-garde looseness quite so well as this, and far from being a Tom Carter overload, this cross-format double release only leaves you wanting for more. Highly recommended.
