eskmo - Willow Grail
Back in stock. San Franciscan producer Brendan Angelides takes the influence of the current UK dubstep scene and mutates it into something altogether more difficult to classify. The unmistakable griminess of 'Willow Grail's bassline is particularly indicative of this, but the drum programming won't be so easily pinned down by the conventions of genre. 'Process' turns out to be pretty special too, featuring the kind of pseudo-classical sampling material heard on Murcof's first album, but set into a 4/4 dubstep hybrid. 'Trudge' finishes off the EP with a walloping, gloopy bass excursion, sounding like something monstrous trying to squirm its way out of a tar pit. Good stuff.
