'The New Formal' is FSG's follow-up to their well received 'Labour Division' LP of 2012. Three tracks expand their sound between the soured synth discord and grungy bang of 'We're Looking For Manpower' and the abrasive breakbeats of 'Clean Neckline' on the front, and the brute shunt industrial shunt of 'Code #3' on the flip.
Fine cross-section of Perc Trax's recent remix catalogue. Highlights come from Marcel Fengler remixing Sawf's 'Unrhythm'; Dom Factory Floor's prodding, monotone take on FSG's 'Nihil Novi'; Mondkopf's mauling EBM noise revision of Pinion's 'Grid'; the industrial breakbeat torque of Tommy Four Seven's 'Ganymede' remix for Perc.
The master of concrete-crumbling techno rolls out two crushers and a cinematic number for Perc Trax. Working somewhere on the spectrum between Kangding Ray, Kareem and Ancient Methods, his A-side cut 'No Icons' revels in blistered, offset kickdrums and diffused electronic distortions with an expanding and contracting torque. B-side 'Ruins' works as a condensed version of the latter, with a more dramatic outcome, and '33, 000 Bells' plays out like a shoegazing, post-rocky sort of instrumental woe.
Grungy, gear-crunching 2nd single of industrial techno from Denver's Mick Finesse for Perc Trax. The half-stepped muck of 'Meltdown' sets up the EP with an awkward lurch reminding of that Prostitutes EP, while 'Evacuation Route' rolls in line with the factory machinations of AnD or Tommy Four Seven. 'Hatch 2A9' and 'Jettison' get down to a minimalist, sub-heavy and noisy drive reminding of Orphx.
Perc's eponymous imprint sums up its 2012 with a greyscale spectrum of industrial moods by Ekoplekz, Truss, ASC, FSG, Jeff Derringer and himself, among others. If we're picking favourites, the 'ardcore torque of ASC's 'Magnetic' is one of his best this year, while Ekoplekz's 'Xylem Teardrops' marks a technoid highlight of his prolific annum. For shaking, roguish industrialism, look no further than Dead Sound & Videohead's rugged 'Murder Top' or the dynamic durability of Forward Strategy Group's 'Elegant Mistakes' and 'Labour Division', and there's also some proper knee-knocking 4/4 pounders from the likes of Bas Mooy, Truss and Mick Finesse.

Sludge-spilling techno stompers from Perc Trax's new pick-up, backed with a crushing Mondkopf remix and support from Luke Slater, Adam X, Blawan, Smear. The producer formerly known as Bobby Dowell is behind Pinion, and uses this new front to force a more broken, industrial swing sound on 'Mirv7' and the stylish, 'floor-razing brute strength of 'Grid'. Mondkopf gives the latter a heavily bit-crushed remix with additional, sweeping breakdown, beside the pensive closer 'Alpha'. RIYL Ancient Methods, Perc, AnD, Tommy Four Seven.
*This is the vinyl edition, digital edition contains two bonus tracks** Sludge-spilling techno stompers from Perc Trax's new pick-up, backed with a crushing Mondkopf remix and support from Luke Slater, Adam X, Blawan, Smear. Rough-playing techno rave rollige from Truss, backed with remixes from Skirt and Perc. The toiling, offset bass grunge and mentasm stabs of 'Ganymede' provide great source material for Skirt's droning and blunted incursion to the nether zones of post-punk and industrial techno swerve, while Perc inverts the aesthetcis for a punchier, gritted slab of ruffness sparring with more agile mentasm stabs and noisier, more precise drums. Truss's up-all-night acid banger 'Hackney' completes a very cool set.
FSG lop-off highlights from their 'Labour Division' LP, backed with digital-only remixes by Sawf and Dom from Factory Floor. The immediate highlight is Dom's 'Michael Cliffe House Remix' of 'Nhil Novi'; nearly ten minutes of stereo-switching drum machine purism revelling in pointillist hi-hats patterns and stealthily evolving rhythmelodic sequences almost guaranteed to trance the f**k out of the 'floor. Athens-based prodcuer Sawf's mix of 'Mandate' is well cool, too. A bruxist churn of industrial drums organised with a signature kink for the dancers. Also included are … Read more

Ali Wells looks beyond the ruined post-industrial landscape of the UK for the latest release on his Perc Trax label, the work of Dutch veteran Bas Mooy. On 'Fasad', subtle, art-house horror atmospherics set the scene for a jabbing, dramatically swung rhythm faintly reminiscent of T++'s Erosion 12"s, while the more convention techno rollers 'Kneel' and 'Pose' inhabit a similar zone to Mooy's new labelmates Forward Strategy Group, and 'Loaded' makes no bones of its debt to Scion, BC, Fluxion et al. Music like this isn't exactly in short supply, now or historically, but few producers… Read more

Perc Trax chief Ali Wells follows his widely acclaimed Wicker & Steel LP quicksharp with a new 4-track EP advancing his vision of radgy, more-British-than-thou industrial techno. Wells' infatuation with noise and extreme music is well-documented, and is brought right to the fore on the gnarly title track - a pulverising drum and feedback assault that sounds like a soundclash between British Murder Boys and Techno Animal. 'Cash 4 Gold' is a winning synthesis of ambient techno and minimal wave, steered by stripped-down, ASC-esque steppers' drum patterns, while 'Boy' is breakbeat-powered dancef… Read more

Over the past couple of years a distinct micro-scene has built up around the industrially-inclined Perc Trax label, one which happily enfolds the brushed-steel techno of Perc, the swung beat science of ASC and the corrosive radiophonics of Ekoplekz alike. Patrick Walker and Smear's Forward Strategy Group are right at the heart of it all, and their debut album - arriving after a run of acclaimed 12" releases - is an event. They've not disappointed us, delivering a set of deep, exploratory techno strafed with noise and scum scraped straight from the factory floor, elegantly alignin… Read more

Companion EP to Patrick Walker and Smear's imminent debut album as Forward Strategy Group, featuring two of its heaviest cuts, one exclusive track and a brace of remixes from Factory Floor. 'Labour Division' is a low-slung but shark-eyed warehouse number with shades of Luke Slater's LB Dub Corps project, while 'Mandate' explores darker, more minimal territory, with killer snare edits and scruffily dubbed-out chords, and 'A Greyed Out Life' is lush synth dreamscaping a la C2, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream and even early Human League. Factory Floor's remix of 'Nihil Novi… Read more

High quality Techno tools from LA's Jeff Derringer, complemented by remixes from Prologue and Phonica's Japanese attache, Iori. Derringer offer two very useful productions: 'Passenger', with its rolling, off-centre balance and trilling hi-hats reminding of recent Regis productions, and the heads-down, tunnelling trajectory of 'The Trail Of Your Blood In The Snow'. Iori's remix of 'Passenger' subtly reshuffles the rhythm whilst adding beautifully spacious, breathy pads, and 'The Trail Of Your Blood In The Snow' is punctuated with a rhythmic grammar reminding of recent Mike Parker productions.

While the original 'Wicker & Steel' album proved Perc's prominence in modern Industrial Techno, this collected remixes set displays his superb and wide reaching listening tastes thanks to killer remix appointments from Chris Carter, TVO, The Black Dog, Tengui, Ancient Methods and more. As far as we're concerned it's one of the best Techno remix packages of the last year, bar none. The breadth of styles is massively impressive, ranging from pulverizing war funk courtesy of Ancient Methods and Tommy Four Seven, through to ASC's ninja-style stepper, offset rollidge from Sigha … Read more

Grotty breakbeat techno detonations from Dead Sound & Videohead on Perc Trax. The EP's called Murder, and given the sounds contain within we wonder whether that might be a bit of a tribute British Murder Boys - 'cos while the Stoke-on-Trent duo might not be able to hold a candle to the fluid rhythm dynamics of Regis and Surgeon, they certainly share a capacity for brute force. These are tunes built to strip the paint off the walls of the dankest squat parties going; they ain't clever, but they sure are big, and you'll need a wash after they've finished with you.
Stark, killer techno reductions from the prolific ASC, new on Perc Trax. Moving further away from the d'n'b minimalism he's best known for, James Clements here unveils three 4/4 steppers for the 'floor. 'Relevations' sounds like a more rugged 2562/AMUS, with sweeping dub chords clearing the way forward for pistoning, Drexciyan electro drums; this dislocated machine-funk sound is explored further on 'Magnetic', before the gloves come off for 'Capsule', a linear warehouse bruiser that combines Teutonic precision with a winning UK soundsystem roughness. Solid wares, full of ASC's signature flav… Read more

Denver, USA's Mick Finesse joins the ranks of Ekoplekz, Sawf, and ASC on Perc Trax with a debut of diverse, dubbed-out and Industrial-edged Techno. Entering 'Sedition Chamber' we're doused in dry distortion and thumped with bass implosions before 'The Tunnel' gets rolling to offset snares and hulking, cavernous bass. 'The Vision' is the EPs standout moment, rusted industrial steppers' rhythms are imbued with a misty-eyed IDM romance, while the crispy Tech-House of 'They Sex Machinas' is given two mauling remixes by label head, Perc.
Stylishly dark and grizzly remixes of Perc's outstanding debut album tracks. Tommy Four Seven offers a pulverizing concrete-funk version of 'Start Chopping', The Black Dog embellish 'Gonkle' with tranced-out synths, Sigha & Truss shake down 'You Saw Me', and ASC serves one of his best remixes in memory, turning 'My Head Is Slowly Exploding' into a warehouse-structured hardstepper.
Ekoplekz provides Perc Trax with their most esoteric, out there jaunt to date with three tracks of circuit-fried dub-noise, backed with a bleedin' Richard H Kirk remix! They're all much tougher and purposefully rhythm-driven than the majority of his works for Punch Drunk, Mordant or Further this year, and in many respects stronger for it. Both in name and aesthetic, we'd attribute a Berlin influence to the throbbing aquatic churn of 'Ekoplatz' which we could easily imagine hearing at daft o'clock on the Berghain 'floor, while the noiser, nastier 'Narco Samba' is fit for the phet-fra… Read more

Heavyweight, offbeat Techno funk from this transatlantic duo. Since their last release on Perc Trax the duo have been busy recording and remixing for the likes of Stroboscopic Artefacts. This release breaks down to four tracks; the scene-setting scapes of 'Endo 1' and three increasingly tougher, reinforced rhythms, from the svelte roll of 'Endo 2', thru the martial pressure of 'Endo 3' and the war-funk flex of 'Endo 4'.
Comprehensive remix collection for Sawf's 'Flaws' LP. Of the seven remixes we'd direct your attention to the likes of Marcel Fengler's strongback jackers refix for 'Unrhythm', Radial's dark, growling overhaul of 'Zelo' and Go Hiyama's offcentre, Surgeon-esque 'Sfika' remix, but the rest really ain't too shabby. Also included is Sawf's own dub of the breakbeat Techno monster 'Zelo', and the warped drama of 'Slim (Reprise Tool)'.
**Upfront Exclusive** Second set of remixes of tracks from Perc's acclaimed Wicker & Steel LP. Kompakt's techno shoegazers Walls kick of proceedings with an excellent version of 'Choice', the album intro track based around an amazing sample of Sleeper's Louise Wener (!) talking about escapism; it's a melodic, Cologne-style house groove, with some subtle future-garage accents, and works a treat. TVO offers up not one but two thoughtful interpretations of 'You Saw Me': the Free Fife mix is a captivating industrial work-out, steering away from the dancefloor an instead into the mantra… Read more
