*“Anyone who’s ever had even the smallest bit of interest in cults and / or group mentality should find an abundance of gold” - Complex* "Awareness of The Source Family, YaHoWa13 and Father Yod has been growing since their early 1970s heyday. A spiritual commune dedicated to a wide-ranging blend of Eastern and Western mysticism, The Source Family were very much a part of the infamous era of tuning in, turning on and dropping out in the late 1960s and 70s. The Source Family’s celebrity hangout vegetarian restaurant, rock band, utopian commune, and beautiful women made them darlings … Read more

**Edition of 500** Von archives, where have you been all our lives?! Part of our introduction to this fine Italian boutique imprint is this awesome documentary-cum-sound experiment pairing Carlos Casas' footage and field recordings made in the classic Russian Vezdekhod tank with a deconstructed soundtrack by Dominick Fernow aka Prurient (aka Vatican Shadow). The all-terrain Vezdekhod tank is the primary mode of transport for most folk in Siberia. Carlos Casas captured a seemingly bum-bruising journey in one of these things somewhere in the tundra of Chukotka Region, Northeastern Siberi… Read more

**Edition of 500** Celebrated American sound artist John Duncan presents "a microscopical audiovisual study on pornography" on Italy's Von Archive. 'The Tailing' was premiered at 'Three Days Of Struggle' in Vittorio Veneto on 21st February, 2010. Slow, keening Hammond organ improvisation is entwined with shadowy, oily monochrome visuals in an extended, tantric, morphing scan of what we can only presume are writhing bodies, but never becomes clear.
**Edition of 500 CD + DVD** Italian punk performance artist Nico Vascelari created Lago Morto - a band, or 'a social punk sculpture' according to curator Diedrich Diedrichsen - for the 'Rock Scissors Paper' exhibition at Kunsthaus Graz. The 'Obitorio Veneto' CD compiles their catalogue of 14 songs, and the accompanying DVD documents the group rambunctious, thrilling performances at 16 locations over 15 days in Nico's native Vittorio Veneto at non musical venues such as bar, osteria, pizzeria, launderette, video store etc, plus an extra video of all 16 performances played sim… Read more

Berlin-based avant-garde singer/artist BRM presents a homage to Andy Warhol in 'Five Takes'. Starting out predominantly electronic, with glitching, detailed production offered by producer/soul singer Waterson and subtly underlining her Billie's classic croon, each take progressively sheds those synthetic layers through the process, revealing an final take where the rollign drums, fluttering organ and location recordings being us closer to a "reality". Recommended.

**DVD PAL. 16:9. German with English subtitles. 41 minutes. Region Code free** 'Parameter' is a documentary film about the music and practice of Macro label owner, DJ and producer, Stefan Goldmann. The press notes allude to Goldmann as "Techno's most restless innovator" which is probably more hyperbolic than true, because to be fair, his profile outside of Berlin isn't so noticeable (to us, at least). But for what it's worth, this is probably one of the best DVDs on the Berlin Techno thing that we've seen: Goldmann gives lucid, intelligent and straightforward answers to director and intervie… Read more

"Chilly Gonzales left Canada for Berlin in 1998. Daft Punk, Bjork remixes did him well, but it wasn't enough. So on to Paris, and collaborations with Feist on her Let It Die and The Reminder albums. Solo Piano then became Gonzales' own best selling album, introducing Gonzo to an audience who actually buy music sometimes. The piano pieces were used in documentaries, in films. But to fully satisfy his insatiable ambition, only one thing was left to do and he did it in 2009: Chilly Gonzales broke Guinness' World Record for longest solo concert with 27 h… Read more

Stunning CD/DVD package of 17 original Afro-Peruvian recordings made in spring 2010 by Secret Stash label owners Eric Foss and Cory Wong. Despite being stripped of their traditional musical instruments the displaced population developed a complex percussive music based around a style of precise foot tapping called Zapateo,… Read more

Since the late 1970s, the identical twin Quay Brothers have made a unique contribution to animation in general, and the puppet film in particular. Filtering arcane visual, literary, musical, cinematic and philosophical influences through their own utterly distinctive sensibility, each quay film rivets the attention through hypnotic control of decor, music and movement, evoking half-remembered dreams and long-suppressed childhood memories, fascinating and deeply unsettling in turn. This two-disc set contains thirteen of their classic short films in brand new restor… Read more

The antidote to all that is kitsch and sentimental, these direct, witty and acerbic fables, drawn in brush and ink, perceptively comment on human nature and challenge contemporary values. Having worked as a writer and director until the late 1980s, his six-part series for Channel Four, Cowboys (1991), brought his work to national and international prominence. The success of these highly amusing 'takes' on generic codes and conventions, and their addre… Read more
