OG stepper, DJ Heny.G presents a lush definition of dubstep soul on his debut album 'Child Hood'. Operating a million miles from the aggy excesses of the scene, 'Child Hood' is romantic, happy, blue, subtle, more in key with the sounds of D1, or Anti Social Ents' Silkie & Quest, all of whom he gave their first breaks with his legendary radio shows on his own React FM and a pre-license Rinse FM. You get the feeling he's really been biding his time with this LP, arriving to remind us of dubstep's roots in the jungles of Foul Play/Steve Gurley and A Guy Called Gerald rather than Breaks or neurotic D&B, manifesting sweetest vibes in the synth-drenched narrative of 'As I Was Saying (Sad Story)' and the deeply gratifying sensuality of 'Retro Love' or the boogie-soulful 'Conqueror' remix, and most literally on the class 'Maturity (TDK Skit)' or the titular 12-minute jungle closer. Highly recommended for all headphone crew and soul rollers!
