The Best of 2012: Reissues

The reissue machine worked overtime in 2012 to put a bit o' spit 'n polish on a raft of classics, known and unknown, for our eager ears. We were seriously spoilt for choice (just check our top 100 reissues list over on boomkat.com for proof) forcing us to make notable omissions from this list, either because they're not available to download or they were just so ubiquitous everyone knows and loves them already. What remains are tried and tested nuggets sifted from an already fine pile: we're talking Quick Culture's incredible, two-faced post-punk electro rider; David Lynch & Alan R. Splet's haunting Eraserhead moment 'In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)'; the dreamy DX7 and 808 cream of Pekka Airaksinen; heart-melting library music from Public Info's raid on Canada's Parry Music archive; the obscure, sci-fi soul rocker 'Starship Commander Woo Woo'; an all-time Drexciyan rarity 'Davey Jones Locker'; the keening digital synth dissonance of Laurie Spiegel's 'Wandering In Our Times'; spine-tingling Irish post-punk from Choice dug out by Finders Keepers; incendiary Dabke from Syria; Grime classics from Ruff Sqwad; Ike Yard's Industrial blueprint and Daphne Oram's long-overlooked DIY concrète futurisms.
