Coming as an accompaniment to the fantastic ‘Brick Mask’, ‘Half Moon’ finds the trio of Erik Skodvin, Andrea Belfi and Aidan Baker in a much more experimental place than the full-length. ‘Gatherer Part 1’ sets the trio’s spirit-flecked ambience against an unnerving bed of fizzing synthesizer, giving the piece a refreshing science fiction edge. The highlight, however comes from ‘Beam’, which is a delightfully Lynchian tape-dubbed drone swiped straight from the Deaf Center playbook. Proper good.
