angel olsen - Half Way Home
Missouri-born, Chicago-based Angel Olsen follows her acclaimed debut tape 'Strange Cacti' and subsequent tours with Bonnie "Prince" Billie with this marvellous display of her warm, soulful vocals. She possesses a confident (but not cloying) elegance, a sincerity and maturity that's utterly charming, foregrounded against subtle acoustic, electric and bass guitar, shuffled drums and sparing studio processing. Style wise, her music draws on traditions of down-home country, '60s pop and folk (yet she's apparently got a fierce punk holler in live shows) and it's very easy to hear why everyone from Will Oldham to Pitchfork are full of praise for her music.
