Vatican Shadow's commentary on the geopolitical chessboard of war looks to the minority struggle in Russia. There's a subtle nuance and sense of progression to this batch that yields some unmissable highlights: the dubwise techno throb of 'Encryption Nets' brings him closer than ever to Berlin-skool techno, a fact compounded by wintry, disembodied chorales which amplify the eastward sense of dread, and followed up in the ricocheting, Kareem-like Industrialisms of 'The Hamburg Cell Was Born In Chechnya'. 'Peace Rage' is an intense 3 minute shot of melodic drama angled at rapidfire tilt, while 'Voices Came Crackling Across A Motorola Hand-Held Radio' works at a boot-dragging chug with deliciously dystopian synth trickles and brooding bass like an early '90s Marc Arcardipane production, while the pensive, isolated atmosphere of 'Snipers As A Breed Tend To Be Suspicious' really captures the imagination in a way few others can. So good.
