vatican shadow - Jordanian Descent
Gosh it's a goodun this. Civil unrest and conflict in the Middle East provide another serious muse for Dominick Fernow's latest VS dispatch. These are quite possibly his longest compositions in this guise, two bleak tracts of engrossing, militant rhythms and intense atmospheres which reiterate their strength through brute repetition. 'Jordanian Descent (Sharia Law)' stoically marches forth on dry, sand-blasted machine percussion under surveillance of gloaming drones, industrial clanks scattering sparks at its standard issue boots until the lactose build-up is resolved with some Dabke-like swagger at the half way point, yet the conclusion seems years away. 'Jordanian Descent (Guantanamo Military Commissions)' is more solitary, pacing a confined, shellshocked sound-sphere to stentorian rhythms which layer with intensity to a jacking, shadowboxing tattoo, all cold-showered with steely drones and rubbling distortion. One of the best Vatican Shadow transmissions yet - a real unmissable gem.
