Culled from the forthcoming album ‘Sweet Heart, Sweet Light’, ‘Hey Jane’ finds Jason Pierce and co on a surprisingly upbeat mode, and while the song retains the length of his band’s early work, this is a far cry from the moody ‘Pure Phase’ or orchestral gospel of ‘Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space’. Rather Pierce is exorcising a Velvet Underground/Lou Reed fetish, and while he still keeps hold of the looping, motoric quality of Spacemen 3, this is an indicator that he’s not ready to go back to the past just yet.
