anenon - Acquiescence
Non Projects head honcho Anenon steps up to the plate with a five-track EP that reflects his label's open-minded but exacting approach to modern beats and electronics. The scuttling, rattling field recordings and sombre, heavily reverbed piano chords of 'Equlibrium' and 'Clairvoyance' wouldn't sound out of place on a label like Miasmah or Experimedia, while the title track and 'Rites' combine a similarly precious ambience with spring-heeled two-step rhythm - the latter, with its jazzy reeds, coming over like some back-alley meeting between Burial and Bohren. 'Twenty Twenty' adopts a more broken hip-hop slouch, sounding like Keyboard Kid or Clams Casino if they'd been reared on Max Richter and GAS records.
