vatican shadow - Byzantine Private CIA
Finally available for official digital consumption, Dominik Fernow's (Prurient) first transmission as Vatican Shadow. Released nearly two years ago on a Hospital Productions cassette, 'Byzantine Private CIA' ushered in a more muted, quietly seething and psyched-out sound for Fernow, practically the inverse of his better known Prurient records. Since then he's released a slew of incredible work under this moniker - cop the 'Washington Buries Al Qaeda Leader At Sea' and 'Pakistan Military Academy' episodes if you ain't already - but this is where it started; four tracks of skeletal, dryly dubbed machine rhythms, sinister synths and masochistic ambience. Make sure to check the fever dream trepidation of 'Cairo Sword Unsheathed' and the clammy, ceramic touch of 'Gunmen With Silencer', and then keep 'em peeled for a stack of Vatican Shadow vinyl in the new year…
