marcel dettmann - Deluge / Duel
Modeselektor accelerate the output of their 50Weapons imprint yet further with two thick-set but dynamic dancefloor offerings from man like Marcel Dettmann. If a lot of 50 Weapons’ releases have found Modeselektor indulging their interest in mutant forms like UK Funky, dubstep and wonked-out hip-hop, then MD’s 12” affirms their foundational love of purified, pumping Berlin techno. That said, these are slightly wilder tracks than we’re used to from Dettmann: ‘Deluge’ frequently threatens to fall off the grid, such is the force of its acid lines, while the 808-smacking ‘Duel’ sounds like a decidedly Teutonic attempt to make a Dancemania record. Terrifically well crafted stuff as usual.
