emil beaulieau - Moonlight In Vermont
Emil Beaulieau is the long-standing pseudonym of noise veteran and general all-round important figure in the scene Ron Lessard. Besides running the RRR record label and store, he’s found time to document a good amount of his avant experiments, and ‘Moonlight In Vermont’ is one such documentation. It emerged initially in 2005 on CDR, then on vinyl co-signed by Thurston Moore for his Ecstatic Peace! Imprint, and now appears on Dominick Fernow’s on-form Hospital Productions label. Those familiar with Lassard’s pioneering experiments will already know the focus; that kind of Japanese noise excess we heard from Masami Akita and the Incapacitants back in the day, and the kind of noise we rarely have access to right now. He’s no teenage basement-noise purveyor, and trust me there’s no New Age synthesized nonsense in here. At all. This is ear-pummeling, lo-fidelity, high volume sound deconstruction and one word might best describe it : unrelenting. If you’re a fan of the genre, you will want to add this to the collection, if not then you’d better get ready for a gut-churning conversion. Recommended.
