Guest-heavy new LP from Cincinatti's Boom Bip, only the third full-length proper of his career. Among the contributors are Luke Steele (Empire Of The Sun), Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand), Josh Klinghoffer (Chilli Peppers), Money Mark, Cate Le Bon (Neon Neon) and members of Warpaint and Bon Iver. It's a strange and ambitious album, shaking entirely loose of Bip's hip-hop origins to take in folky chamber-pop, out-and-out indie-rock and expansive, largely instrumental electronic soundscapes. It's the latter compositions that are most successful to our ears - it would take a stony heart not to be moved by the lush, languid arrangement of 'Reveal', or the epic sweep of 'Tumtum'. An interesting new chapter in the evolution of this producer, well worth investigating.
