instra:mental / boddika - Vicodin (Skudge Mix) / Grand Prix
One of the most deadly and hyped techno productions of the year drops in the shape of Skudge's immaculately dark 'n greased mix of Instra:mental's 'Vicodin'. The original 'Vicodin' was the B-side on the blink-and-you-missed-it 'Let's Talk' 10" early last year and quickly became one of the more celebrated tracks in the Instra:mental canon, thanks largely to its brooding, centered melodic hook. Skudge sensibly keep that hook firmly at the heart of their sensational, night-stalking 'warehouse' re-rub, nailing it to scuffed martial drums, adding some extra gallons of reverb and low-end menace. On the flip Boddika does his tried and tested electro-techno thing on 'Grand Prix', all careering up-down riffage, crisp snares and face-melting builds - it's tough and addictive stuff, but it's the Skudge mix that keeps on giving- late night 4/4 action just doesn't get any better.
