sven weisemann - Xine
Following a prolific run of releases since his debut for Styrax Leaves in 2005, Sven Weisemann collects himself for a sublime debut album proper on Mojuba's Wandering sub-label. Those releases displayed a tremendous breadth and adroit touch for a producer of his experience, incorporating elements of modern classical with minimized dub, deep house and Detroit techno, proving him to be an estimable character with a visionary sound in the crowded ranks of contemporary deep electronica. With 'Xine', Sven has created "an imagined journey through all elements of life", twenty tracks unified by an elegant and melancholy sense of melody and richness of detail, evidently savouring the opportunity to create a body of work which follows from the modern classical inflections of his gorgeous 7" releases earlier in '09. There's a cinematic quality of narrative written throughout 'Xine', from the shimmering Rhodes and glistening dub chords of 'Xine II' to the treated solo keys of 'Harbor Lights' recalling Max Richter or Swod, and the misty melodrama of 'Awake's Harold Budd-in-dub stylings, making this a firm future favourite with armchair dreamers. Anyone with a passion for dub, deeper house and modern classical should check this album without fail for a heartwarmingly gratifying experience. Lovely.
