shlohmo - Places EP
Welcome return from Shlohmo. Inspired more by mood and melody than over-wrought experimentalism, these four tracks have a pop cuteness and dazed HipHop feel which many in his scene could learn from. 'Forgot I Was Here' almost sounds like an update of CCO or Morr Music's adult-pop, even with a hint of Ulrich Schnaus' shoegaze distortion, a vibe shared by 'Things I Lost' which also incorporates a BoC drowsiness and illusory compressions a la Matthewdavid into the blissed-out ambient pop mood. 'Empty Pools' completes a lovely effort with Badalamenti-esque sense of slightly eerie nostalgia through reverbed lap-steel guitar and evocative field recordings.
