Now re-released, after being remastered this year, in a svelte digipak. As above, the classic Maurizio/M-Series CD pretty well defined the middle nineties. The epochal pieces from 1992, 'Ploy' [M 01] and 'Lyot' [M 02], are both left out of this picture, which again suggests the overall spirit of the vinyl series, rather than exhaustively compiling it. Resembling more of a primetime club set, the disc opens with some aquatic steppers business, elegant club bangers for large sound systems, gradually working inwards and building upwards to the mighty 'Domina', a certified classic club tune and the centre piece of this wonderful collection. Originally released in 1997 and out of print for a long while now, the tracklisting features nine pieces drawn from six releases originated between 1993 and 1997, each number a world to itself. M7 appears twice, with a CD-exclusive mix fo its flip side, and this was always the key to the M series, where the dubs were often as good, if not better than the lead sides. As history, these tracks are indisputably influential, but there's something even more important; the fresh, rocking nature of this music still sounds like nothing else. More burning and up front than the Basic Channel compilation, but still perfectly compatible, watch your bassbins with these numbers, absolutely kicking! Buy or Die.
