quadron - Quadron
Plug Research reach out from an altered angle with Quadron's debut album of electronic soul music. The two core members of Denmark's Quadron previously worked together as part of the Boom Clap Bachelors but have struck out on their own with a blend of nu-soul and pop-wise R'n'B. Vocals are ably handled by Coco, whose style manages to bridge a chasm between nonchalant IDIB style synth pop and classic Motown soul, occasionally inflected with a sweet Danish turn. Just as impressive is Robin Hannibal's production. He's collaborated with a a huge number of respected figures, from Sa-Ra's Omas Keith to Talking Heads' Wally Badarou and it blatantly shows here. His pop-enriched sounds takes in classic soul and early 80's synth-pop, probably best heard on the gorgeous hues of 'Horse', or the fluid boogie funk symphonics of 'Average Fruit'. This is a surprising album that confounds expectations and should be investigated by fans of Mayer Hawthorne, Pattie Blingh or Shafiq Husayn.
