ambient temple of imagination - ATOI
Generally speaking, it's probably a good idea to steer clear of recording projects with the word "ambient" in them, although there are of course one or two notable exceptions - Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works and Fred Frith's Death Ambient project spring to mind. Generally speaking, however, anyone who overtly announces their music to be ambient tends to flirt with the less desirable, new age tendencies of the genre. There is a little bit of that going on here too: 'Lust, Live In The 8th House' at times sounds like a motorway pile-up comprised of 3rd generation IDM and the sort of 'Eastern' warbling Lisa Gerrard records for Ridley Scott films. You might be reminded of the DiN label when listening through some of these pieces, and while there's not as much darkness evident as on certain other Plague Recordings releases, the multi-layered, cinematic atmospherics presiding over this music have a cumulative effect as the tracklist progresses.
