various / 14 tracks - 14 tracks: Digitalis Exclusives
Digitalis Recordings is one of the most interesting imprints of the moment, established in 2003 and dedicated to mining the furthest reaches of the musical undergrowth for emerging new strands of music from across the experimental spectrum. This week they've kindly rummaged their hard drives and tape stacks to pick 14 of their finest, including exclusives, forthcoming releases and many tracks which were previously only available on limited cassette and vinyl runs. Since 2003 the label has become an integral part of the American musical underground through the auspices of Brad and Eden Hemming Rose (aka Altar Eagle), nurturing and contextualizing myriad outre sounds and artists with a loving dedication and expanded Weltanschauung. The scope of Digitalis could send lesser listeners cross-eyed, but it's much to their credit that we find a consistent thread of psychedelic lust and principled lo-fi aesthetics which, for example, manages to present Barn Owl on the same page as Roll The Dice without skipping a beat. In this selection you'll find previously cassette-only gems like Peter Broderick's gorgeous 'Duet #3: Banjo/Piano' and the zombied darkwave of Spare Death Icon's 'Chinatown 2099', amidst exclusives like the blitzed pop of Angels In America and Charlatan's soaring vision quest, not to mention recent label classics from Roll The Dice, Radio People and the superb Altar Eagle. You'll also get a taste of what's to come with exclusive upfront picks from Chubby Wolf, Motion Sickness of Time Travel, Sanso-Xtro and much more. Their catalogue may look intimidating from the outside, but once within the rewards are almost infinite...
