flying lotus - Pattern+Grid World
Complementing his recent 'Cosmogramma' set, Flying Lotus drops seven succinct and deadly beat works for Warp. These tracks have been a main fixture of his live shows, displaying an unrivalled awareness of contemporary movements whilst solidly retaining characteristically psyched intentions. 'Kill Your Co-Workers' has to be the highlight, a nimble arrangement of stepping D'n'B syncopation spun with Anti-G lightness and woozy harmonics to melt your mind. 'Pieface' follows with a typically uncategorisable jaunt, squeezing machine beats into dextrous shapes within bubbling music-box-gone-wrong melodies while 'Time Vampires' slumps back into amniotic astro-hop mode. 'Jurassic Notion/M Theory' meanwhile takes it to the African space station with instinctively morphing rhythms and the breathtakingly discordant 'Physics For Everyone!' is further evidence, if needed, that this man is on some seriously next level business. Bonus marks for the awesome sleeveart by Theo Ellsworth! Recommended.
