depakote - The Gummo Album
Depakote pays tribute to Harmony Korine's titular '97 masterpiece with a set of chopped MPC beats interspersed with movie dialogue. To be fair, we can't see how the music connects with the topic, but if we forget about any underlying concept and concentrate on the beats, you've got a pretty cool album of late-90s style instrumentals, screwed Boogie and Games-alike dragpop moments. He's unafraid to let his loops slip and slide out of the groove, often lending an uncertain wow and flutter or drunken wonkiness that's central to his lo-fi style, giving a seemingly careless nonchalance to proceedings which also keeps things unpredictably entertaining. Mad stuff, do check if you're feeling Games, As Valet, or Yuk.
