Glistening new album from one of Denmark's most revered electronic groups, System. Alongside Opiate's Thomas Knak, Jesper Skaaning and Anders Remmer make fragile melodic electronica informed by downbeat rhythms from instrumental hiphop and dubstep. This formula proved successful on their self-titled debut album for ~scape and tracks on the seminal 'Staedtizm' compilations, requiring only a small amount of tweaking to bring it into line with the post-dubstep sound of 2010. Imagine a sound between Clouds and Pole and you're in the right head space here. There's a general sense of movement from widescreen, tender electronica in 'All', to shy and fractured dubstep in 'Drk', before the two seem to find reinforcement in convergence, unearthing thicker bass in 'Stars' to anchor their celestial synth spurts, and entering the echo chamber armed with digi-dubbin' horns on 'Stanley'. Finally, 'Wouldn't' circles back to floating, fluctuating ambience halfstep and we're deposited into the pastoral bliss of 'Meadow And Stuff' with arcing rainbow synths appearing out the digital ether. For fans of pure, classic glitch and 'tronica, this is a winner.
