irr. app. (ext.) - Ozeanische Gefuhle
Originally released in 2004, Ozeanische Gefugle is part of irr. apt. (ext.)'s trilogy of recordings under the influence of 20th century psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich. The title for this two-part long-player translates as "Oceanic Feelings", a term which relates to Reich's belief in "the natural state of every healthy organism as connected to and engaged with the world around it, with its energies flowing from the center outwards", as the Helen Scarsdale camp helpfully explain it. The quite remarkable music on the album is allied to the sort of intense drone tapestries woven by the likes of Nurse With Wound (with whom Matt Waldron has recently appeared in a live capacity), Andrew Liles and The Hafler Trio and features a slow-shifting drift of different constituent parts: tangled up strands of woodwind, thunderstorm recordings and processed performance passages all contribute to the vaporous stream of the forty-two minute title track, but you'll have to soak the piece up for yourself to discover the full scope of its sonic proportions. The altogether less taxing quarter-hour of 'The Demiurge's Presumption' toys around with heavily treated field recordings and plucked violin strings, but for the most part the track wrenches out some compelling stretches of drone, complete with timpani rolls and accompanying strange bass overtones.
