midland - Play The Game
Atmospheric breakstep and tech-house from Ramadanman collaborator Midland, backed with a superb Dexter remix. Midland's reminds of the emotive dubtech of Indigo or earlier Martyn releases while 'Leitmotif', made with Furiku, is a rolling tech-house standard and 'Head Down' gathers some momentum with crisp shuffles and a big room techno prowess. The finest track by miles is Dexter's 'Play The Game' refit, using a similar percussive palette to his 'Redbox' killer for Steffi's Dolly imprint and invoking the spirit of classic Kevin Saunderson cuts with surging bass synths and slashing strings.
