Steadily beating away at the heart of Bristol's bass music scene are the Multiverse studios. Acting as both a recording space for emerging and established talent, from Pinch to Joker and Ginz, and a hub for the family of labels centred around Tectonic, Earwax, Caravan and Kapsize, the influence of Multiverse has evidently spread far and wide in the last 5 years. This double CD scans the period 2004-2009 and comes back loaded with modern dubstep, breaks and experimental techno choices. The first disc stretches from the industro-bruk of Vex'd's 'Lion' to Moving Ninja's 'Witchdokta', Pinch and P Dutty's 'War Dub' (as used in the film Children Of Men), and a majestic early production from Joker taken from the seminal 'Kapsize EP'. They're joined by Skream's highly sought after 'Bahl Fwd' the prototypical dubstep/techno fusion of 2562's 'Techno Dread' and the original purple wowzer 'Purple City' by Joker & Ginz. On the second disc we've got another heap of classics to plough through, from the sumptuous minimalism of Pinch's 'Qawwali' and Cyrus' 'Indian Stomp', to Moving Ninja's visceral sound design on 'Uranium' and techno from October and Emptyset. It's very true to say that the UK scene would be a different place without this tight knit bunch of Bristol imprints so your attention is definitely required.
