hypno - Over The Top EP (Julio Bashmore Mix)
Ramp's PTN label plucks out a new Funky mutant from Hypno backed with a superbly light-footed remix from Julio Bashmore. Hypno recently made his debut appearance with 'Over The Top' included on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Electric compilation, showing some smart chops with a succinct blend of Roska/Emvee alike congas shaken into a more aerodynamic house alignment. 'War Demons' follows with a very tidy mix of Afrobeat, spaciously dubbed 80's synth bursts and marimbas to which Señor Bashmore adds a layer of effervescent sheen and agile bass turns. And, we shouldn't forget the deep house starins of 'Doo Doo' taking classic Chez damier vibes are reworking them for the current UK floor. In our opinion, this is the best of the three PTN 12"s so far.
