puffy areolas - In The Army 1981
Ohio's Puffy Areolas arrive at Siltbreeze with this eight-song monument to the rawest, nastiest kind of filth-punk. The band stack up song titles like 'Puking In Piss' and 'Fuck Your Pretzel' in a willfully off-putting fashion, all the while living up to the prankishly gross-out billing with alarmingly abrasive, scream-along garage noise that evokes Pussy Galore and the sound of several Stooges records all playing simultaneously. The album peaks with '1981', whose opening scrap metal guitar chords sound unusually great and focused. This sort of structural soundness doesn't last terribly long however, and 'Get Me Out Of Houston' grumbles along over several minutes of feedback-strewn drifts and oscillator debris before kicking off in fine fine style, momentarily resembling Acid Mothers Temple being sucked up inside a giant cosmic vacuum cleaner.
